WP5 - Culture

WP5 - Culture

Permafrost thaw impacts cultural ecosystem services (recreation and tourism, religious, spiritual or emotional experiences) in various ways that are crucial for healthy communities.

Objectives

The aim of WP 5 is to study the non-monetary and spiritual impacts on Arctic communities of past, present and future permafrost degradation. That is, we will address cultural ecosystem services from a One Health perspective.

The specific objectives of WP5 are to:

O5.1: Collaborate with and engage local and Indigenous knowledge holders in assessing the extent of impacts and disruptions of cultural services by permafrost thaw on the local level
O5.2: Provide an overview of permafrost thaw impacts on cultural ecosystem services
O5.3: Establish similarities and differences regarding impacts on cultural services in our main case study areas and to put the local results of the case studies into a pan-arctic perspective
O5.4: Present locally relevant nature-based solutions to cultural services impacted or disrupted by permafrost thaw and erosion, and thereby to provide input to cross-cutting participatory decision-making processes.
