ILLUQ is Horizon Europe funded permafrost project that studies the impacts of permafrost thaw to the health (human, animal and environmental), pollution and ecosystem services in activities articulated around nine interlinked work packages.
The project is based on the holistic One Health framework and the idea that contamination can have health impacts for all the different domains; human, animal and environment.
ILLUQ brings together an interdisciplinary consortium of 13 partner institutions from Europe and 2 from Canada that are all committed to participatory research with local stake- and rightsholders.
ILLUQ’s mission is to provide the first holistic approach to permafrost thaw, pollution, One Health and well-being in the Arctic and to deliver timely products on the threats from contaminant release, infrastructure failure and ecosystem changes to stakeholders.
